Complete standard for fire rating of air conditioning and solar thermal insulation materials

1、 Current domestic fire classification standards

Currently, insulation materials comply with the national standard GB 8624-2012 "Classification of Combustion Performance of Building Materials and Products", which is divided into four levels: A, B1, B2, and B3:

1. Class A: Non combustible material

After combustion, there will be no fire, no smoke, no open flame, and high temperature will only melt and not burn.

2. B1 level: flame retardant material

Difficult to ignite and carbonize in the presence of open flames, immediately extinguish upon leaving the source of ignition, with low smoke volume, meeting the minimum standard for home decoration.

3. B2 level: Combustible materials

It is easy to burn when exposed to open flames, and will continue to burn after removing the source. There may be droplets and thick smoke, and it is prohibited to use it in indoor enclosed spaces.

4. B3 level: flammable materials

Highly flammable and rapidly spreading, it belongs to inferior foam material, and the use of water pipes and air conditioning pipelines is strictly prohibited.

2、 Corresponding fire rating of various commonly used insulation materials

1. Rubber insulation pipe (mainstream for air conditioning and household water pipes)

Home decoration qualified product: B1- flame retardant closed cell rubber (mandatory preferred for home decoration)

Cheap miscellaneous brands: B2 flammable, B3 flammable, pungent odor, high temperature, and location with heat tracing are prone to catching fire

>Electric heat tracing and anti freezing solar water pipes, B2 and B3 rubber are prohibited

2. Polyurethane PU foam (solar water tank insulation)

The hard foam of the integrated water tank is mostly B2 grade

Commercial flame retardant polyurethane can reach B1; polyurethane does not have Class A non combustible version

>The water tank belongs to a closed shell with low risk of wrapping, but the pipeline is exposed and foaming is strictly prohibited. Flammable materials are strictly prohibited

3. Glass wool and rock wool (for engineering air ducts and high-temperature pipelines)

All belong to Class A non combustible, standard for central air conditioning in shopping malls and large solar high-temperature circulation pipelines.

4. Pearl cotton (EPE), ordinary sponge

Basically, they are classified as B3 flammable level and will rapidly shrink and burn when exposed to fire. They are prohibited from being used for insulation in air conditioning and hot water pipelines

5. Phenolic insulation board

Mostly B1-A grade, mostly used for insulation of central air conditioning ventilation ducts

3、 Mandatory Fire Prevention Regulations for Air Conditioning and Solar Energy Scenarios

1. Household split air conditioner (on hook, cabinet)

1. Indoor through wall copper pipes and ceiling pipelines: B1 grade rubber insulation is required

2. Computer rooms, equipment rooms, and enclosed spaces: B2 combustible insulation cotton is strictly prohibited

3. Outdoor piping of outdoor unit: insulated inner layer of B1 rubber, outer layer of aluminum foil protection, fire rating not affected by sun exposure

2. Household solar water heater

1. Indoor and balcony pipelines: B1 grade rubber

2. Outdoor pipelines on the roof and water pipes with anti freezing electric heat tracing: hard B1 flame retardant

Heating caused by the conduction of heat in the tropical zone poses a fire hazard to the combustible insulation layer due to prolonged high temperatures;

3. The interior of the hot water storage tank is made of polyurethane foam, and the outer shell is made of metal to isolate open flames. Normally, B2 is allowed;

4. High temperature circulating pipelines near vacuum tubes, with priority given to A-grade rock wool for commercial engineering

3. Central air conditioning/commercial large-scale solar hot water project

1. Ventilation ducts, basement pipelines, and public corridors: Mandatory Class A non combustible (glass wool, rock wool)

2. The insulation materials around the equipment room and fire exits must be of Class A quality

  

4、 Easy and fast identification of good and bad

1. B1 rubber: When the lighter is burned for a short period of time, it will only cause the surface to turn black and extinguish immediately after leaving the fire. It will not continue to ignite and there will be no molten droplets;

2. B2 rubber: Continuous combustion in the presence of an open flame, with droplets of burning liquid falling down;

3. A-class cotton: does not ignite when burned with an open flame, only turns red.

5、 Purchase Summary

1. The minimum threshold for all exposed water pipes and air conditioning copper pipes in home decoration is B1 flame retardant level

2. For solar pipelines with electric heating and anti freezing, only B1 is selected

3. High temperature pipelines in shopping malls, construction sites, and air ducts should use Class A non combustible insulation

4. Pearl cotton and ordinary foam shall not be used as pipe insulation materials
